...that fucking BITCH.
Oh, YES, Rowling. Please sue the Lexicon and prevent them from coming out with an encyclopediac record of the series--y'know, the one that you've praised as a great site, the one you say you've used yourself. Because the Lexicon would prevent you from writing your encyclopedia for charity, wouldn't it?
Except for the part where it totally wouldn't.
I mean, the Lexicon's book would be unofficial. Moreover, it's been in the works for about a year, and the people who run the Lexicon haven't made any secret of it.
She can write whatever she wants--officially. It's not as if different interpretations--of ANY book, or series of books--don't exist.
But that's not good enough for Ms. Anne Rice, Jr. No. It has to be her way or the highway.
Could someone please smack this woman with a wet fish?
ETA: And if you think this is the only copyright infringement suit she's filed recently, check again. She sued the organizers of a religious festival in India. A court threw out [Penguin Books' and Rowling's] claim of copyright infringement over a (huge) unauthorized replica of the Hogwarts school for wizards, constructed for the Hindu festival.
dearauthor has a few things to say about this.

I'm sorry for you, and I'm furious. I had believed that any essays in the book not written by Wossname would be appearing by permission of the authors. That would, after all, be the right thing to do.
May I please link to your comment in a separate post? Clearly, I was wrong. I'd like to admit it.
It doens't mention fanart, but clearly he is using the work of other fans for his own personal gain which is just . . . beyond words -_-
The credit on the website is fine though, I dont think anyone has issue with the website. Not even WB it seems.
From the new article on The Leaky:
There is no intention to have this suit apply to other fan endeavors such as web sites, wizard rock, etc.
Which is nice of them to specify, I think.
